Brit & Ty

These two were so much fun to photograph. They were game for anything! We walked all over downtown Leesburg on Sunday morning. Their mom and I sort of rediscovered Leesburg's charm. Lots of great old houses turned businesses with cool fences/gates/doors/etc. Ty was having so much fun that he told me he could "do this ALL day!" I'll definitely call upon him again when I need a little boy for a special shoot! And I think Brit had a little fun, too. I have so many favorites from the morning so it was hard to choose which to post! Thanks for a great time Brit and Ty!

Sunflowers

I love sunflowers. I like them from a distance, tall and majestic, reigning over the garden glimmering in the sun. I like them up close with their bright yellow petals forming a perfect circle. When we discussed what to plant in the vegetable garden, I picked sunflowers. No, I don't eat them. I just admire them from a distance and up close. But not too close; the bees get to have the closest seat! (click to enlarge the photo and you'll see what I mean)

The Garden Variety

"Boy, Mamaw, you sure are saving a TON of money on food this summer!" The boys were excited to be helping pick vegetables in the backyard garden and couldn't help but think how much money must be being saved. Truth is, having a backyard garden isn't exactly free when you pay for all the plants, seeds, fence materials, tiller rental fee, new tiller (after you decide it is too expensive to rent one) and all the TIME involved. But, the vegetables are tastier if you ask me and it is so much fun to watch them grow. Not to mention the great learning experience for the kids and the knowledge that your food does not contain salmonella!

What a cutie...

I first met this little guy on his BIRTHday. He was the first birth I photographed and I really credit that shoot as motivating me to start this business. I enjoyed it so much that I knew it was what I wanted to do with my life! The birth was a c-section and after having had 2 myself I knew that as the mom on the table, you miss so much of the detail in the birth of your child. The photos help give you a better perspective on those first moments of your baby's life. Definitely my favorite shoots!!
Well, he just turned 2 and the family asked me to take some "playful" portraits of him. He is such a little boy. Just like my 3 boys, he loves rocks, mulch, playgrounds, being chased. He is "on the go" constantly. I think he wore me, his mom and his grandmother out during the shoot. I had a lot of fun playing and I had to share a couple images.

When babies don't seem so much like babies anymore

Sometimes you want to hold onto the past...you miss the tiny infant you once held in your arms...but then you realize that you haven't really lost that baby...they have just evolved into a little person with a distinct personality and a curiousity as big as a house...they look at you like you are the center of the universe...and you look at them like you can't wait to see what the future holds for them while cherishing all that the past gave you to savor.

Fireworks!

I tried shooting my first firework pictures this 4th of July. The lingering smoke was working against me but I got a few good ones. Not using a flash and letting the shutter stay open longer than normal helps capture the brilliant colors and fiery trail in the sky. Next year I'll use a tripod and hopefully there will be a breeze to help move the smoke away from the fireworks. It was fun!
